In the letter the journalists’ union condemns the recent arrest of their Iranian colleagues and calls on the Tehran regime to lift its ban on the independent news media and stop its crack down on the peaceful demonstrators
Shahrzad News: The staff of the Iranian embassy in the Hague have refused to receive a protest letter signed by 1100 Dutch journalists, despite having agreed to see their representatives in advance.
In the letter the journalists’ union condemns the recent arrest of their Iranian colleagues and calls on the Tehran regime to lift its ban on the independent news media and stop its crack down on the peaceful demonstrators.
The two representatives of the Dutch Union of Journalists, including the union’s general secretary, delivered the letter but were told by the embassy staff that they could not enter the building and should either leave the letter on the porch or post it to them.
The idea of a protest letter and its contents had come from Shahrzad News editorial board and it has already been forwarded to all the 1100 members of the Union.
While the Iranian embassy staff have refused to explain why they changed their decision, the general secretary of the Dutch Union of Journalists has commented that the embassy’s treatment of his members’ protest perfectly matches the Tehran regime’s unacceptable treatment of the Iranian people.
