News from Iran’s most notorious political prison, Evin-Tehran

Mousavi’s brother-in-law hostage in Evin

Today in an interview with the Persian broadcasting of Deutsche Welle, Ms. Shirin Ebadi – Noble Peace Prize winner – declared that the brother-in-law of Mr, Mousavi has been kept in Evin already for several weeks. According to Ebadi, Mousavi’s nearly 70 year-old brother-in-law, Shahpour Kazemi, an engineer without any political or activist background, has been taken hostage. He was not arrested during a demonstration or at a political gathering. Instead, he was picked up in Tehran from his car more than eight weeks ago and has been imprisoned without charges ever since. The only reason for his arrest is to put Mousavi under pressure in order to silence him, Ebadi stated. Therefore, Mousavi’s brother-in-law is not a ordinary political prisoner but a hostage in Evin, concludes Ebadi.
